From CWA's President

Greetings!

I am extremely pleased to welcome you to the dazzling Converse Gallery here at the Slater Memorial Museum in Norwich, CT for the 2024 CWA National Open Juried Exhibition. The 90 artworks here include 65 artists from 6 states (CT, MA, NY, OH, CO, NC) and were chosen from just shy of 500 entries. Connecticut Women Artists (CWA), has promoted and supported professional women artists for 95 years. Today, with over 200 elected members, CWA continues to support and promote Connecticut’s professional women artists working in a wide range of media. The opportunity to show in a wide variety of Connecticut galleries speaks to the quality of work and mastery of the CWA artists. CWA provides a great opportunity for artists to network through these events, through our Members Online Gallery, monthly Art Chats, Newsletters, and online presence through social media and our website, ctwomenartists.org. If you are a member, we encourage you to get involved. It is a great way to get to know your fellow artists and we can always use extra help. If you are a woman artist residing in CT, and not a member, please consider joining. We accept applications each August and our team reviews them in September. You can learn more on our website. Looking forward to meeting you at one of our exhibitions!

With Warm Wishes,

Janet Leombruni
CWA President

Body/Building (Augustus’ Wildest Dreams) by Helen Kauder

This year's exhibition will be at the spectacular and newly renovated Slater Memorial Museum, with its soaring light-filled galleries. The Converse Art Gallery, built in 1906, hosts six changing exhibitions throughout the year and is a fitting venue to showcase the works.  The opening reception and awards ceremony takes place September 28, from 1-3pm. The exhibition runs from September 30 through November 22, 2024.

The Slater Memorial Museum is a historic building and art museum on the grounds of the Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, Connecticut. It was built in 1885 and designed by architect Stephen C. Earle in Richardsonian Romanesque architecture.

Juror of Selection and Awards

Sharon Butler, artist and writer of the award-winning blogazine, Two Coats Of Paint.

"Many thanks to the CWA organization for inviting me to select work for the annual exhibition. Choosing from nearly 500 jpeg submissions wasn’t easy, as each had its strengths. All the artists I picked show a steady commitment to their own idiosyncratic visual languages that conveys something about their personal experiences. At the same time, their work reaches beyond their own particular spheres and speaks to me — and, I hope, to a still wider audience." -- Sharon Butler, Publisher at Two Coats of Paint
