Featured Artist Working with Oils

I work in a broad array of subject matter - figurative, landscape, still life, and abstract. This variety enables me to have a broader view of art as a means of expression. Working in oils, I give myself the most flexibility to refine each painting as it reveals itself on the canvas and to control the final image.

Painting is an exploration of an idea and a composition, not fixed, but very alive. During each painting's evolution, I let the elements form and interact - color, texture, shape, and composition. I continuously try to impose subjective color options and shapes, consciously selecting new subjects, and determining how I want to engage the viewer. I change techniques of paint application and surface treatments to gain a varied surface and portfolio of work. I enjoy the plein air experience, but with its challenges, I usually finish in the studio. An intuitive painter, I continually look at new strategies and ideas, always looking for ways to keep the process and the pictures I make fresh and uniquely mine.
